Nine of Wands

The "Nines" in the Tarot Deck are the last of the single digit numbers they are cards of completion (as an aide-memoir think of the 9 months of human pregnancy). These are cards representing and achievement about which one can reflect on progress made, and any associated material gains or earnings.

The Nine of Wands is associated with dilemmas, the type of choices and dilemmas that everyone faces at some times in our lives.
Despite the fact that we all face difficult and/or important decisions that have far-reaching consequences at some stage, this can be difficult. Is there a tempation to procrastinate in this situation ? Sometimes there is nothing more than we can do but "wait and see".
Which applies in your situation ?

This card may advise the seeker to consider if he/she might still be defending an idea or position that no-longer requires or deserves his/her continuing protection.

Keywords and phrases summarising the possible meanings of this card include:

  • Changes and New Challenges
  • Forceful approaches cause us to need to remain "on guard"
  • Hidden enemies
  • Wait for it ... cease-fire in a struggle.

Remember that all of the Wands cards in the Tarot Deck have some energies in common. These include, for example, the overall association of the suit of Wands with personal growth and the expression of personal spirit through our work, intellect, or creativity. For further information, also read about the Suit of Wands in general.

Some texts include meanings for "reversed cards", which apply when the cards are shuffled in both order and orientation. This doubles the number of possible "cards" in the deck from 78 to 156. (In terms of the probabilities of obtaining results by chance alone, it is not a simple doubling as once a card has been drawn it cannot be selected again in the opposite orientation in the same reading.)
