Ace of Swords

As with all "Aces", the Ace of Swords represents, a fresh start, new beginning, fresh opportunity, and positive creative force.
Aces in general herald new beginnings and opportunities.

The Ace of Swords is concerned with the search for truth, ethics, clarity, and intellectual satisfaction. The theme of this card is the power of the intellect - which requires balance and restraint in order to be used to the best and most fulfilling effect.

This card may convey many messages - all concerned with the theme of new starts and knowledge/intellect. For example, the concepts of freedom of thought combined with fertility and growth of the mind are illustrated symbolically bt the Robin Wood Ace of Swords.

Keywords summarising the possible meanings of this card include:

  • Attainment of Ambitions
  • Birth of influential person
  • Champion, Hero or Leader (either the seeker or the subject of the reading)
  • Intellectual Excellence
  • Truth.

Remember that all of the Swords cards in the Tarot Deck have some energies in common. These include, for example, the overall association of the suit of Swords with academic or philosophical thought, intellectual pursuits, truth, and clarity. For further information, also read about the Suit of Swords in general.

Some texts include meanings for "reversed cards", which apply when the cards are shuffled in both order and orientation. This doubles the number of possible "cards" in the deck from 78 to 156. (In terms of the probabilities of obtaining results by chance alone, it is not a simple doubling as once a card has been drawn it cannot be selected again in the opposite orientation in the same reading.)
