One of Oxford's many interesting "ancient traditions" is May Morning.
The city, or at least many of its inhabitants wake early on 1st May each
year.
In many cases, they don't go to bed at all the night before but attend
a "May Ball" instead. Pubs and Cafes open early for breakfast.
At 6am a choir sings from the top of Magdalen College Tower. It's about
that time that a few drunken revellers may be tempted to jump off Magdalen
Bridge into the river below - despite attempts to prevent this. As the
river is shallow at this point, injuries are often sustained. (Despite
this, it seems that some people still want to have a go !)

The
City of Oxford is said to be the second most popular UK Tourist
spot, after London.
There is much to recommend this
beautiful historic city. Many visitors (and students !) come
to Oxford to see, study, or experience its famous university -
one
of the oldest in Europe. After almost 800 years, this is still
widely recognised as one of the best universities in the world.
The earliest hot air balloon flight in England also happened
here and is commemorated by a plaque in Christ Church Meadow.
