Carterton is located in South-West Oxfordshire, near to Witney and Lechlade-on-Thames.
Carterton is the location of the Brize Norton Royal Air Force base,
which is occasionally in the national news. It is one of the town's
major employers. There are also many retired RAF personnel living
in the area.
It was largely due to the
presence of this military airbase
that the town expanded considerably at the time of of the second
World war (WWII). A new modern town centre can be seen today.
This includes an extensive shopping area, Town Hall, residential
areas, and leisure facilities.

The above photograph of Carterton (War Memorial, Town Centre and Town Hall)
were taken in late summer 2007.
